Electrolyte sodium comparison: mg per serving
Sodium in an electrolyte drink is not one number — it spans more than a tenfold range depending on what the product was designed for. This page collects the per-serving figures by format, alongside potassium, magnesium, calories and sugar, so the comparison can be made from labels instead of marketing.
| Format | Sodium | % DV | Potassium | Magnesium | Calories | Sugar |

FDA sodium labeling thresholds
These are labeling definitions, not health claims. They set what a package may say about sodium per serving.
- Sodium free — Less than 5 mg of sodium per serving.
- Very low sodium — 35 mg or less of sodium per serving.
- Low sodium — 140 mg or less of sodium per serving.
On that scale, a Hydrate Heroes® stick at 88 mg sodium, 103 mg potassium, 11 mg magnesium sits under the low sodium threshold, while a salt-forward performance stick sits roughly seven times above it.
Methodology
- Figures are read from published Supplement Facts and Nutrition Facts panels for each product format, per single serving as the manufacturer defines it.
- Formats are described generically rather than by brand. Products within a format vary, so ranges are shown where the category spreads; the Hydrate Heroes® row is exact because it is our own published panel.
- Daily Value percentages use the FDA reference of 2,300mg of sodium per day for adults.
- Public-health context (CDC and American Heart Association sodium guidance) is included as background association only. Nothing here is medical advice.

Common questions
How much sodium is in an electrolyte drink?
It depends entirely on the format. Published labels in this category run from about 88mg per serving in a low sodium everyday stick, to roughly 330mg in an ORS-style powder, about 500mg in a hydration multiplier, and up to about 1,000mg in a salt-forward performance stick.
What counts as a low sodium electrolyte drink?
The FDA allows a food to be labeled low sodium at 140mg or less per serving. Most electrolyte sticks sit well above that line. Hydrate Heroes® lists 88mg per stick — 4% of the Daily Value.
Where do these numbers come from?
Each figure is read off a published Supplement Facts or Nutrition Facts panel for that format of product. Formats are described generically because individual products within a format vary; always check the panel on the product in front of you.
How much sodium should an adult have in a day?
Published US dietary guidance sets a limit of 2,300mg of sodium per day for adults, and the American Heart Association suggests an ideal closer to 1,500mg for most adults. Most of that already arrives through food. This is general public-health information, not medical advice.
